Impact Groups

What They Are

MedAxiom Impact Groups consist of ten to fifteen noncompeting MedAxiom cardiology practices that are organized into “pods”. Pods meet for two days semi-annually. One practice acts as the host while the others attend as guests. The attendees complete a strategic and operational assessment on key areas selected by the host practice. Critical information is provided so that attendees can complete an accurate and thorough analysis. At the end of the assessment recommendations for improvement are made to the host practice.

Impact Group Process

The practice assessment is lead by an experienced MedAxiom facilitator who has worked in the cardiology industry for many years and is familiar with the data MedAxiom requires on its surveys.

Prior to the session, attending guests will receive:
  • A list of the specific areas the host identified for improvement
  • Available MedAxiom survey data

During the session, guests will:

  • Tour the practice offices
  • Review financial reports and strategic plans
  • Review the organization’s structure
  • Review patient and referring physician satisfaction surveys
  • Interview physician and administrative leadership
  • Interview technicians, technologists and staff
  • Have an evening dinner with practice physicians who are available
  • Collaborate with colleagues to:
    - List things that are positive about the practice
    - Create improvement recommendations, and
  • Present the recommendations to practice leadership

Even though time is limited, participants are consistently amazed at how many issues are identified and how well the assessors bring those issues to light. After the session, the host will receive a formal report. Although this may seem like the end of what is learned, that has proven not to be the case. The Impact Group is a powerful tool that continues to provide education and insight to both guests and hosts long after the session ends.

Impact Group Pods And Requirements

Each Impact Group pod consists of approximately ten to fifteen cardiology practices from non-competing areas of the country. The group meets two times per year, rotating locations, with each practice serving as host approximately once every five years. All members of a “pod” are required to attend at least one meeting per year, and members must attend at least two meetings before serving as a host facility.
