With increasing payment regulations and continued focus on costs and quality, recent years have seen a rapid increase in select outpatient medical services—including diagnostic and interventional procedures—being performed in various outpatient settings. Complex procedures are increasingly possible in outpatient facilities due to new medical technologies, minimally invasive procedural techniques, new anesthesia and pain control techniques, all of which have been shown to significantly reduce costs, prevent complications and allow patients to return home more quickly. This panel discussion will explore multiple perspectives and approaches to ambulatory care in 2017, including free standing cath labs and hospital based ambulatory strategies utilizing same day discharge programs, to optimize care delivery.
