  October 12, 2017

Dr. Lancaster discusses the genesis for his 2016 book, "EMBRACE: A Revolutionary New Health Care System for the Twenty First Century". EMBRACE, which was first published as a proposal in the Annals of Internal Medicine in 2009, stands for Expanding Medical and Behavioral Resources with Access to Care for Everyone, and was developed by a nonpartisan group of health care professionals with an infrastructure designed to use modern innovations and technology to achieve effective and efficient health care. In addition, MedAxiom's Larry Sobal, who has no disclosures regarding this book or its author, explains why he believes that this model is exactly what the American health care system needs.

CV Transforum Spring'17: New Data - The Benefits of Cath Lab Redesign, Transradial Access and Same-Day Discharge - Dr. Amit Amin

  April 19, 2017

Dr. Amin will present data and real life results on the benefits of cath lab redesign, transradial access and same- day discharge (SDD). This work was recently published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions and quantifies the significant cost savings available to cath labs across the country. For the first time, in a nationally representative dataset of Medicare beneficiaries linked to the NCDR CathPCI Registry, PCI care pathways of TRI and SDD were associated with significantly lower costs compared with TFI and NSDD when examined from a hospital perspective. Furthermore, the magnitude of cost savings was large, exceeding $900 for TRI PCI and $3,500 for TRI PCI with SDD, implying that even small shifts in the current practice of TFI NSDD to TRI SDD by 30% could save a hospital performing 1,000 elective PCIs each year $1 million and the country $300 million annually.
