Course Description:

This 9-module course is designed to assist coders, billers and applicable revenue cycle staff new to coding professional cardiovascular services (CV) with the basics of coding principles. The enrollee will learn principles of medical coding related to the three main code books: CPT®, ICD-10- CM Code Set and HCPCS Level II. This course, led by MedAxiom's expert Revenue Cycle Solutions Team, is recommended for anyone who is new to coding CV professional services or needs a refresh of CV coding essentials. The course incorporates the rules and regulations promulgated by government agencies including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (local and national), as well as any non-government bodies acting as contractors or representatives of the government including Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System, Diagnosis (ICD-10) coding rules, guidelines and conventions as applicable.

  • CV Diagnosis Coding – ICD-10 CM
  • Basics of Evaluation and Management in CV Coding
  • Non-Invasive CV Studies and Imaging CPT Coding
  • Coronary Angiogram and Interventional CPT Coding
  • Peripheral Vascular Basics – Diagnostics and Interventional Procedures of the Arteries
  • Venous Basics Diagnostics and Interventions
  • Electrophysiology (EP) Studies and Ablation CPT Coding
  • EP Device CPT Coding – Pacemakers and Defibrillators

This course is set up in 9 modules and is designed to be self-paced. Please consult with your leadership to determine the optimal completion timeframe for you. Note that access to the content has been extended to 12 months after the start of the course due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meet Your Instructors:

 

Nicole Knight, LPN, CPC, CCS-P

Nicole Knight has served as Practice Administrator for Baptist Neurology and Northeast Florida Cardiology and Director of Operations for Jacksonville Heart Center and Louisiana Cardiology Associates. She has extensive expertise in coding, compliance and education for various specialties including cardiology, neurology, radiology, hematology/oncology, orthopedic, ENT, gastroenterology and internal medicine. She has also provided physician and staff coding and compliance education sessions nationally.

 

Joline Bruder, CPC, CPMA, CCVTC, CGSC

Joline has 15+ years of healthcare experience including cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, supervising, and consulting for coding and compliance. She has provided procedure and evaluation and management audits, reporting, physician and staff compliance education sessions and co-authored the Cardio-Vascular Thoracic Surgery Coding Specialty exam for the American Academy of Professional Coders. 

 

 

 Jammie Quimby, CPC, CCC, CEMC, CCS-P, CPMA, CRC, CDEO

With ten years of diverse experience in medical coding, medical auditing, business administration, relationship management and customer service Jammie Quimby is committed to continuously seeking educational opportunities and achieving relevant certifications and proficiencies in all aspects of medical billing, coding and compliance. Jammie has worked as a lead coder and educator and performed daily claim audits and reviews of clinical documents, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and maintaining quality assurance.

COURSE GRADING

This is a pass/fail course based on the completion of the material. This course can be done at the student’s own pace. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic each student will have a maximum of twelve months to complete the course material. Students must pass every quiz with a score of 70 percent or above, and the final course evaluation feedback survey in order to receive the CEU credits and certificate of completion.

Accreditation 

This course has the prior approval of AAPC for continuing education hours in the medical billing and business support field.

Designation

The AAPC, or American Academy of Professional Coders, designates this program meets their guidelines for 13.5 CEUs. The AAPC provides training and issues certification to medical insurance coders, medical practice managers and medical auditors.
