The purpose of the study was to conduct a short-term, randomized, controlled trial to evaluate the feasibility and clinical efficacy of treatment with the Pritikin Program in an outpatient worksite setting in obese patients with metabolic syndrome. This study demonstrates the feasibility and clinical effectiveness of short-term, intensive outpatient lifestyle therapy in people with obesity and increase risk of CHD.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether regular exercise has additional therapeutic effects for people with obesity and prediabetes participating in a dietary weight loss program. This research demonstrates that multi-modal exercise, conducted in conjunction with diet-induced weight loss in people with obesity and prediabetes, caused greater improvement in whole-body (muscle) insulin sensitivity and in key secondary outcomes – including hepatic insulin sensitivity, cardiorespiratory fitness, and muscle strength – than matched weight loss achieved solely by calorie restriction.
Kevin Moore, Exectuive Director of Michigan Heart, sits down with MedAxiom's Joseph Sasson, to describe his program's journey with the Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehab Program. He says that the decision to implement an intensive cardiac rehab program was a "no brainer" because of the significant value that it brings to patients, to physicians and to the business. He offers advice to those who may be considering starting such a program.
