Vance M. Chunn, DSc, MSHA, FACHE, is the chief executive officer of Cardiology Associates of Mobile, Inc. Cardiology Associates is a private, single specialty, cardiology practice, with 30 cardiologists and 20 advanced practice providers, located in Mobile, Alabama. The practice is involved in all aspects of cardiovascular medicine with 10 locations and affiliations with eight hospital systems. Cardiology Associates is a recognized leader in the delivery of cardiovascular medicine locally, regionally, and nationally with specialized programs in advanced imaging, including cardiac CT and PET, structural heart disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, electrophysiology and pediatric cardiology.
Dr. Chunn has extensive experience in the healthcare field working in both hospital administration and medical group practice management during his career. Prior to becoming CEO of Cardiology Associates, he served as administrator and consultant for a number of medical group practices along the Gulf Coast as well as a vice president in administration of a large tertiary medical center.
Dr. Chunn received a Doctor of Science degree in Administration - Health Services from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where his dissertation research focused on vertical integration of physicians and hospitals. His dissertation research entitled Integration of Cardiologists with Hospitals: Effects on Physician Compensation and Productivity was accepted for publication in the journal Health Care Management Review. Dr. Chunn also has a Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration for Auburn University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Dr. Chunn serves on a number of local and national healthcare related boards including the MedAxiom Board of Managers, the advisory board for the master’s program in health administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the advisory board for the undergraduate program in health administration at Auburn University. He is also involved as a volunteer in his local community working with several not for profit organizations including the American Heart Association. Dr. Chunn is dedicated to the continued development of educational programs in healthcare administration and has served as a mentor for numerous students pursuing career interests in the healthcare administration field.
