Standardized ketogenic diet demonstrates ‘dramatic beneficial effects’ in patients with Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis

The results of a unique study – the first to look at the impact of the ketogenic diet on NASH –  were presented at Digestive Disease Week in May, 2019. Results showed that participants in the Ideal Protein group exhibited substantial weight loss and improvement in insulin resistance, as demonstrated by HbA1c. In particular, 51% of patients in the Ideal Protein group lost 10% or more of their body weight, a weight loss threshold that correlates with fibrosis improvement in NASH. The Ideal Protein protocol is structured to maintain initial weight loss and educate patients on healthy eating habits, both of which are important to improving the health of NASH patients.
