“The cardiac care of athletes is not a one size fits all approach,” notes Eli Meyer Friedman, MD, FACC, medical director of sports cardiology at the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. “Each athlete is unique in his or her sport and, thus, the cardiovascular system of that athlete is different. Furthermore, the approach to the cardiac care of athletes is quite different based on level of competition and available resources. What is done for a professional or Olympic level program can be quite different than what is available for a high school or Division III college.”
A panel of experts from across the athletic age spectrum share their insights and experiences in dealing with this challenging patient population.
