Cardiovascular disease accounts for 12% of total US health expenditures, and with a rapidly aging population, that number is only expected to grow. In an effort to control these ballooning costs, payers and federal regulators will continue to push alternative payment models that incentivize providers to lower the total cost of care. Historically, value-based care has been limited to primary care... now with specialists slowly becoming a part of these value-based contracts.
