Taking time to creat a value-oriented culture...paradoxically “culture” will happen to the merged entity without any effort whatsoever.  Given the size of these investments, both up front and ongoing, it behooves hospital leaders to make sure this critical element – culture – isn’t left to chance.

There is certainly a place for technology and machines in medicine and, when properly utilized, they have the ability to improve the human condition.  Likewise, there is an irreplaceable role for the human physician and there is no onslaught to remove the healing touch only a doctor can provide. 

The competition will be pretty stiff - At our Fall Meeting a couple months ago I gave a presentation on Succession Planning & Leadership Training. It was a break-out session and one of those topics I could see people ignoring as a big yawn. At starting time the room was half empty and I thought I was Nostradamus.
