MedAxiom at ACC.22: Transforming CV Care, Together

Tuesday, April 19, 2022 | Lori Walsh

After two years of virtual conferences, the cardiovascular community reunited in Washington, DC, at the American College of Cardiology’s Annual Scientific Session & Expo (ACC.22)! MedAxiom was thrilled to participate in ACC.22 and connect with cardiovascular leaders from around the globe. While the world has changed drastically since MedAxiom became an ACC Company three years ago, both organizations remain dedicated to our joint mission: to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health. This mission was on full display at ACC.22.

The conference kicked off with the Opening Showcase that celebrated the strength, resilience and grace of the cardiovascular community. Dipti Itchhaporia, MD, MACC, ACC immediate past president, and Pamela Morris, MD, FACC, ACC.22 chair, energized the crowd with a review of the progress we’ve made over the past year and a glimpse into what the future holds for the cardiovascular community.

Transformative Education

MedAxiom experts discussed “business of cardiology” insights during ACC.22 educational sessions. During a session on increasing access to cardiac MRI, MedAxiom President and CEO Jerry Blackwell, MD, MBA, shared guidance on building successful imaging programs. In the Women in Cardiology Lounge, Denise Busman, MSN, vice president of Care Transformation, discussed how to develop a business plan when starting a women’s heart program.

Cardiovascular management-focused sessions highlighted opportunities for growth in today’s telehealth care landscape, and innovations in cardiac rehab and lifestyle interventions. In a session on remote monitoring of cardiac devices, Ed Fry, MD, FACC, spoke on the importance of optimizing arrhythmia care in individual patients and the Heart Team approach.

Milestone Celebrations

ACC.22 celebrated 20 years of TAVR! Tune into the MedAxiom HeartTalk: Structural Heart Innovations podcast series to discover TAVR hot topics, including TVT advancements and the importance of shared decision making, and racial and socioeconomic disparities in structural heart programs.

The conference concluded with Convocation where Dr. Fry, a longtime MedAxiom member and previous board member, became the new president of ACC. We’re thrilled to see him step into this role and look forward to the next year under his strong leadership.
