Cardiovascular Essentials for Nurses

Course overview 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This 12-week course is designed for new cardiovascular (CV) nursing staff working in general cardiology ambulatory practices, nurses new to CV ambulatory nursing, or general nursing staff who wish to expand their CV knowledge. MedAxiom's RN expert Jenny Kennedy leads the course and features imaging expert Jaime Warren, vice president of Care Transformation Services at MedAxiom, as a guest instructor. The course incorporates video, textbook and online learning to cover these essential CVRN topics: 

• Module 1: Introduction to Cardiovascular Medicine 
• Module 2: Cardiovascular Patient Assessment 
• Module 3: Cardiovascular Triage and Communication 
• Module 4: Cardiovascular Diagnostics I - EKG
• Module 5: Cardiovascular Diagnostics II – Medicine Diagnostics 
• Module 6:Cardiovascular Pharmacologic and Device Therapies 
• Module 7: Non-pharmacologic Cardiovascular Therapies 
• Module 8: Hypertension (HTN) and Hyperlipidemia (HLD)
• Module 9: Heart Failure 
• Module 10: Atrial Fibrillation (AF) and Valvular Heart Disease (VHD)
• Module 11: Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) and Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
• Module 12: The Modern Cardiovascular Nurse

 Note: Access to quizzes and instructors has been extended to 12 months after the start of the course.

For RNs: This curriculum is designed to help new RNs or RNs new to ambulatory CV practice immerse themselves in clinical cardiology– to understand what they are experiencing in the clinics and provide a didactic review of the pathophysiology, symptoms, diagnosis and clinical decision making.

For Employers or Leaders of RNs: This curriculum will help jump-start and support your RNs' on-the-job learning and quantitatively improve their level of competency.
