Course OVERVIEW

This four-part course is designed to educate clinicians on Peripheral Vascular Disease. Whether a clinician is transitioning from primary care or another specialty to cardiology, this course will help with success. The series was developed and presented by Christy Willocks, a physician assistant and key expert in managing patients with peripheral vascular disease. 

The course incorporates video and online learning to cover these essential cardiovascular topics:

• Module 1: Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Part 1
• Module 2: Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Part 2
• Module 3: Carotid Disease and Other Vascular Diseases
• Module 4: Venous Disease

Course GOALS

For Clinicians:
Develop an understanding of the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular disease.

For Employers of Clinicians:
Assure standard learning for APPs who take part in the treatment of patients with peripheral vascular disease. 

Faculty

Christy Willocks, MSN, FNP-BC

Christy Willocks, NP received her bachelor’s degree in nursing and later completed her Master's of Science in Nursing at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. She has spent over 20 years working as a nurse practitioner in both general cardiology and interventional vascular medicine. Along with her clinical work, she has acted as manager of a growing cardiology APP program for the past 13 years. She has worked to develop orientation programs and protocols to assist new graduate APPs to grow in their profession along with precepting students. She currently works with Ballad CVA Heart Institute in Kingsport, TN which has allowed her the privilege to act as a sub-investigator in many national and international vascular research trials. She has served as an adjunct facility and presenter at both the International Symposium for Endovascular Therapy and VIVA vascular conferences for the last several years.

THE METHODOLOGY

Each weekly lesson has a 45-minute didactic video providing the content for each week’s focus.

This course can be taken at the student’s own pace but must be completed within 12 months of starting the course.

International Institute for Continuing Medical Education designates the blended format for this educational activity for a maximum of 2.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacists

Different state boards of pharmacy have different requirements for continuing education. Some accept CME credit, while others accept only ACPE-approved CPE (continuing pharmacy education) credit. Please refer to your state board of pharmacy to find out if CME is accepted.

Please note that all final decisions about credit hour acceptance will be made by the licensing organization to which the credit hours are submitted.
