Austin, TX (November 17, 2016) – Statistics show that 70% of Americans are overweight or obese.[1]  Many of these individuals have metabolic syndrome, a cluster of health conditions including increased blood pressure, high blood sugar and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels, putting them at increased risk for a host of cardiovascular diseases.[2]

In an effort to stem the tide of the obesity epidemic, Timothy Logemann, MD, FACC, ABOM, a board-certified internist and cardiologist at Aspirus Heart and Vascular, and his team implemented the Ideal Protein Protocol four years ago. Starting out with about 50 employees enrolled as patients/participants, today they serve 400 patients in five locations throughout Wisconsin, with a total weight loss of more than 40,000 pounds.

Details of the program are featured in MedAxiom's latest "Heart to Heart" video that investigated the successful partnership of Wausau, Wisconsin-based Aspirus Heart and Vascular and the Ideal Protein Protocol, a patient-centered, medically designed and developed solution for weight loss and weight maintenance. The new video is designed to educate the healthcare community about both the financial and health benefits of offering medically sound weight management protocols in a practice.

Featured in the ten-minute segment Dr. Logemann and other Aspirus team members attest to the efficacy of the four-phase, ketogenic Ideal Protein Protocol, using it as a tool to help their overweight and obese patients successfully manage their weight - significantly improving their metabolic parameters and heart health as a result. Administrators describe the seamless integration of the turnkey protocol into the practice, and the resulting wave of revenue generated with implementation.

The Heart to Heart video also features Ideal Protein participants, as they describe the health benefits they have reaped from losing weight with adherence to the protocol. Enhancing the structured nutritional component, at the heart of the Ideal Protein Protocol is an emphasis on education, support and encouragement. Under the supervision and guidance of Aspirus’ physicians and health coaches, many of these participants have lost over 100 pounds.

"Treating obesity results in the resolution of many other problems including type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, diastolic heart failure, and lower extremity venous insufficiency. Addressing obesity in a structured, organized fashion can be life changing for patients," said Dr. Logemann, "Systems and doctors should develop more focused resources to address obesity, including trained specialists, American Board of Obesity Medicine certification, and dieticians trained in many techniques, including ketogenic diets."

At ObesityWeek 2016 in New Orleans, Dr. Logemann unveiled two poster presentations demonstrating the validity of the Ideal Protein Protocol. His award-winning abstract Effect of the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Protocol on Employee Health Care Costs illustrated a study of 306 employees who had successfully completed the Ideal Protein Protocol, and analyzed claims costs for these employees from 2013 to 2015.  Results from the study indicated an average of $916.97 (18% reduction) decrease in overall average costs.

In The Effect of a Ketogenic Diet on Lipid Profiles, 20 patients (BMI >35) were enrolled in a 12 week study with the Ideal Protein Protocol.  Sixteen patients completed the study, constituting an 80% compliance rate.  Besides noticeable results in weight reduction, findings indicated that the Ideal Protein Protocol also has a positive effect on lipid abnormalities, with significant reductions observed in glucose and triglyceride levels.
